First Birth As a Certified Doula!!

On Friday, I attended my first birth as a certified doula(DONA)! I was back-up this weekend for another doula who was going to be out of town. Originally we didn't think I would be needed because she wasn't due for a couple more weeks. I had kind of put it in the back of mind with everything else going on. But, on Tuesday night she called me to inform me that she was already 3-4 centimeters along! So, I definitely needed to be prepared for it to happen this weekend. Remember, I was also moving & working my normal schedules. On Friday afternoon when I came out of my 1:00 appointment I had many messages letting me know she was in the hospital in labor. So, I rushed out, called my last 2 clients to cancel them, & got to the hospital when she was 10 centimeters!! Minutes later, the baby was here! We gotta love those quick births, huh?! I stayed a lot longer after the birth than I normally do since I wasn't at the birth very long, but I was still back to my day by 5:30pm! Then it was back to clean my office & see if my last 2 clients would want to come in (which they didn't) & then moving the rest of our stuff. What a day! Busy times! Have I mentioned I've only had a few hrs. of sleep a night?! Oh well, God watches over us & will help us accomplish what we need to if we're working in the right direction.
